Thailand successfully hosted the annual PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart 2016 (AT&RTCM 2016) in Chiang Rai. The event underpinned Thailand’s leadership position as a top destination realising the importance of adventure travel and responsible tourism, and illustrated the readiness of secondary Thai destinations, such as Chiang Rai, to welcome international tourism.
The three-day niche event took place during 17-19 February, 2016, at the Dusit Island Resort Chiang Rai, and attracted 278 delegates from 34 countries who were given the opportunity to hear from a diverse line-up of 20 international speakers from 10 countries on creating new opportunities for promoting environmental protection and social sustainability within the industry. Meanwhile, the one-day mart offered the chance for 44 sellers from 10 destinations to negotiate business prospects with 32 buyers from 20 source markets. The event also attracted 11 top professional travel bloggers.
