Picture: Ronan O’Connell Among the seas of selfie sticks at tourist hotspots across Asia, there is an ever-increasing presence of budding amateur photographers brandishing professional-standard cameras.

Many, however, have never been trained to use their tools nor become closely acquainted with the camera manuals. They can be seen shooting in the basic automatic mode, failing to exploit the full capacity of their sophisticated cameras. 

This trend'''''' has been noted by many professional photographers based in Asia who have begun offering photography tours of the cities they call home. 

They have become particularly popular in Thailand, where the varied countryside and cityscapes offer tremendous fodder for photographers of all skill levels. In the south, the pristine beaches, translucent water and lush islands make for dramatic, colourful pictures.

Its capital Bangkok has not only golden palaces, teeming markets and drifting canals, but raw, energetic street life just begging to be captured on camera. Equally photogenic is the country’s mountainous north where gleaming temples abound and the countryside is wild and verdant.
