Thailand in Focus :: World Wildlife Day

04/03/2015
Thailand has initiated to proclaim 3rd March of every year as World Wildlife Day. The initiative received the support of all United Nations Member States by adopting this decision on 20 December 2013 during the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly. We, Thailand, see World Wildlife Day as an important mean to raise awareness of the world's wild fauna and flora, and to recognize the important role of all stakeholders in ensuring that global trade does not and will not threaten the survival of individual species. Thailand is also making constant progress in eradicating illegal wildlife trafficking and has made continuous effort in complying with the obligations of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). We also strongly support and take part in several concerned international organizations and frameworks, including the regional ones. At the Present, Thailand has also successfully enacted the Elephant Ivory Act and amended relevant regulations and provisions in order to prevent and suppress the illegal trade and possession of ivory.
