Thailand in Focus :: Prime Minister announces the government's 6-month performance

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presented to the Thai and foreign media earlier this morning the government’s 6-month performance reports. In a press conference at Government House, Prime Minister Prayut, ministers and government officials from the 20 ministries took turns describing their achievements in the past 6 months. Gen Prayut affirmed that an election will be held according to the reform roadmap, providing that no new conflicts arise.  Deputy Prime Minister M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, an economic advisor to the Thai government, addressed economic achievements. He reported that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) for the fourth quarter of last year expanded by 2.3 percent while foreseeing a 3 percent GDP expansion in this year’s first quarter due to budget disbursements and new factory openings. He added that economic growth from the return of tourists to the Kingdom has greatly offset the drop in overall exports. 

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyut Yuthavong was the next person to address the government’s social related achievements, expressing his satisfaction with the joint efforts of four ministers on reducing inequality and human development while revealing the government’s plans on establishing an Education Superboard and to cultivate a lifetime learning mentality in Thai citizens. 

Deputy Foreign Minister Don Poramatwinai has detailed his Ministry’s agenda on the development of quality personal in order to be competitive in the international arena. 

In addition, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Suwaphan Tanyuwattana, who was the last official to speak in the event, talked about the government’s effort to cut administrative costs and stimulate the wellbeing of small to medium enterprises through new sources of credit. 

Pamphlets containing government achievements in 11 policies in great detail have also been distributed to the media. 

The 11 policies include the protection of the monarchy, national security, social equality, education, healthcare, economy, the role of Thailand in ASEAN, science and technology, natural resource preservation, anti-corruption efforts and the justice system.  Credit and view full story at National News Bureau of Thailand
