Thailand in Focus :: Outcome on PM's participation at 26th ASEAN Summit in KL and Langkawi

PM Prayut attended both the plenary and retreat sessions of the ASEAN Summit, as well as meetings between the ASEAN leaders and different sectors of ASEAN. He also attended the 9th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Leaders’ Meeting.

The Prime Minister gave an interview that at the meetings, Thailand officially endorsed people-centered ASEAN, reinforcement of farmers for them to be able to sustain in the manufacturing sector, and joint promotion of agricultural products, especially SMEs.

With regard to the ASEAN Summit, ASEAN leaders focused on reinforcement of ASEAN Community on the basis of mutual interests. All sectors are encouraged to take part in the building of ASEAN Community. PM Prayut proposed networking of new generation of ASEAN, particularly young entrepreneurs whose potentialcould comprehensively reinforce ASEAN economy.

During the Summit, three outcome documents proposed by Malaysia have been adopted by ASEAN Leaders. They are 1) Kuala Lumpur Declaration on a People-Centered ASEAN, 2) Langkawi Declaration on Global Movement of Moderates, and 3) Declaration on Institutionalising the Resilience of ASEAN and Its Communities and Peoples to Disasters and Climate Change.
