Thailand in Focus :: Cannes '15: Thailand Film Office Predicts 2015 Will Be a Record-Breaking Year for Incoming Productions

20/05/2015
By Sydney Levine | Sydneys Buzz thailand Last year, 631 international productions went to shoot in Thailand, with revenue of over $59m. While these figures were higher than the figures for 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, they could not match 2013, which was the best year ever for international production in Thailand. Now, Ubolwan Sucharitakul, Director of Thailand Film Office is confident that 2015 will be the best year ever for Thailand's production service industry. All international productions must go through the Thailand Film Office's application process, and in recent years this process has been streamlined to give a fast response. As a result, the Thailand Film Office can monitor the level of incoming productions. Ubolwan Sucharitakul said "We are expecting a number of big feature films in Thailand. One of these is 'Gold', directed by Stephen Gaghan, starring Matthew McConaughey, now in pre-production." "Productions from the U.S. and Europe remain important to us. While the number of productions is unlikely to increase dramatically, the average budget is higher than for other regions. Thailand also continues to be a very popular destination for films from the Indian subcontinent, seeing a steady rise." Credit and view full story at Indiewire
