Thailand in Focus :: Thai students sweep the awards in world's largest pre-college science competitions

Thai high-school students have won 8 awards in the 66th Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF 2015) and the 8th International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering, and Environment Project (I-SWEEP 2015), the world's biggest science and engineering competitions for pre-college students. The event took place in May in Pittsburg, Pensylvania and in Houston, Texas in the United States of America with over 1,700 contestants from 75 countries competing. 

Thai students from various high schools won the first, third and fourth prizes as well as honorable mentions in Environmental Science, Zoology and Botany in the 66th Intel ISEF 2015 while three projects won bronze medals and one honorable mention in Environmental Management in the I-SWEEP 2015. 

The awarded projects of ISEF 2015 are, for example, the Grand Award project on "A new method of silk sheath production developed from observation of the spinning behavior of sikworms" developed by students from Damrongratsongkroh School, awarded third-prize "Utilization of crude plant extract from the Imperata Cylindrica as an effective bio-insecticide to eradicate brown planthoppers (Nilaparvata Ingens Stal) in rice fields" developed by students from Khon Kaen University Demonstration School (Mor Din Daeng) and "Bio-based packaging from Lotus cellulose" by Suratpittaya School which also won third prize and many more awards. 

Meanwhile bronze-medal awarded projects from I-SWEEP 2015 were, for example, "The Eco-Friendly Cycling Helmet", and " Water Quality Analysis and Overall System Management Software for Reduction of Water Pollution from Coastal Marine Aquaculture" proposed by students from Bangkok Christian College.  Credit and view full story at National News Bureau of Thailand
