Thailand in Focus :: Thailand ready to be Coordinator of ASEAN-EU relations for next four years

07/08/2015
Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the ASEAN-EU Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Malaysia and had a chance to discuss with Ms.Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

At the meeting, Gen Tanasak expressed Thailand’s readiness to be the coordinator of ASEAN-EU relations for the next four years from 2015 to 2018 after the country has just ended such a role with China.

Both sides agreed that the relationship between the two blocs was involved not only in economic cooperation but in all aspects, and they had enjoyed the progress of cooperation made so far.

Gen Tanasak also indicated that Thailand has had a plan to build on bilateral relations between ASEAN and the EU. The country would push for the drafting of a roadmap to that goal so that ASEAN’s relationship with the EU would be raised to the strategic partnership level in the near future.
