Thailand in Focus :: PM to attend 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA70)

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to attend the United Nations (UN) Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, and participate in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York City, during September 23- October 1, 2015 to affirm Thailand's endorsement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Prime Minister will also deliver a statement at the 70th UN General Assembly (UNGA70) to reiterate Thailand's intentions in tackling global challenges and to share Thailand’s successes with His Majesty the King's Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy in sustainable development, which can be an important contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Maj Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, has disclosed the details of the Prime Minister’s trip that will include attending the aforementioned UN Summit and UNGA70, delivering a statement, attending a state luncheon and dinner hosted by UN Secretary General and by the U.S. President in honor of participants, presiding over the opening of an exhibition on a "Sufficiency Economy: An Approach to Sustainable Development", and attending bilateral meetings with national leaders and heads of state. PM Prayut will also receive an ITU Global Sustainable Digital Development Award from the Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union. The 70th UN General Assembly The main feature of the UN General Assembly this year is the plenary meeting of UN Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda as the framework for the sustainable development goals for the next 15 years. The Prime Minister will join other national leaders in adopting the draft document titled “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. "Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability: Thailand’s Vision and the Global Development Agenda” The Prime Minister will also deliver a statement to reaffirm Thailand's commitment in cooperating with the UN to uphold the UN three main pillars of peace and security, human rights, and development. He is to present Thailand's experiences in fighting poverty and reducing inequality in accordance with the philosophy of a Sufficiency Economy. Thailand moves forward with the Road Map At the meeting with members of US-ASEAN Business Council, which will include high-level business executives from leading US companies, the Prime Minister will elaborate on Thailand's developments to reaffirm the intentions of Thai Government in mobilizing the Roadmap to achieving a sustainable democracy, promoting economic growth that leaves no one behind, and moving forward with higher sustainable development goals. An Exhibition on “Sufficiency Economy: An Approach to Sustainable Development” PM Prayut is also scheduled to visit an exhibition on a  “Sufficiency Economy: An Approach to Sustainable Development” aimed at introducing His Majesty the King's Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, which is an approach that be useful for any country, regardless of difference backgrounds,  for sustainable development The Deputy Government Spokesperson also stated that the Prime Minister’s participation in the UN Summit and UNGA70 will send a message to the world that Thailand remains a strong member of UN, and stands ready to cooperate with the UN in its sustainable development agenda in order for all nations and peoples to enjoy equal benefits, without leaving anyone behind.
