A special musical performance “Portraits of Siam: A Choral Exploration of Thai Musical Heritage,’ by the Suanplu Chorus

On 17 September 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Prague organised a special musical performance “Portraits of Siam: A Choral Exploration of Thai Musical Heritage,’ by the Suanplu Chorus at the Mirror Chapel, Klementinum in Prague.  This event was aimed at promoting Thai culture and musical talents of Thai people to audience in the Czech Republic.

 

The Suanplu Chorus is a SATB chorus, formally established in 2000 by Mrs. Dusdi Banomyong, the Thai national artist and the director.  Currently, Mr. Ramon “Bojo” Lijauco Jr. (from the Philippines) is a conductor and voice coach of the choir.  The Suanplu Chorus have performed in several countries and have been awarded many international medals. The Group has been a pioneer in combining the beauty of Thai music with Western choral tradition.

 

 

 

The Suanplu Chorus recently won three categories at the 2nd Corfu International Festival and Choir Competition.  The Group was the only Asian choir among 37 choirs from 20 countries competing at the Grand Prize Competition.  

 

 

More than 150 people attending the concert from diplomatic corps, public and private sectors, local media, Czech public, foreign expats and Thai community residing in Prague.
