The Opening Ceremony of the Exotic Orchid Exhibition at the Fata Morgana, Prague Botanical Garden

On 1 March 2018, H.E. Mr. Narong Sasitorn, Ambassador of Thailand to the Czech Republic, and the ASEAN Committee in Prague (ACP) comprising of five embassies of ASEAN Member States in Prague namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, attended the opening ceremony and press conference of the Exotic Orchid Exhibition at the Fata Morgana, Prague Botanical Garden.  More than 150 participants, such as Deputy Mayor of Prague, Czech artists and actors, and more than 70 journalists, were present at the event.

The exhibition is an annual event organised by the Prague Botanical Garden which selects orchids from different parts of the world to showcase in each year.  More than 40,000 people visited last year’s exhibition.  This year’s exhibition highlights orchids from Southeast Asian region, especially Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, with a view to promoting natural resources, climate, culture, food and tourist destinations in each ASEAN Member State.

The world’s orchid market is estimated at 400 million USD, the majority of whcih are from tropical areas.  Thailand is currently the top-ranked tropical orchid exporter.  Its exports value was 41.08 million USD or 1.29 billion THB during January – July 2017.

The Exotic Orchid Exhibition at the Fata Morgana, Prague Botanical Garden (Trojská 800/196 Praha 7 – Troja), is open to public between 2 and 25 March 2018 at 9:00 – 18:00 hours everyday except Monday.  Entrance fee is 150 CZK for adults and 75 CZK for children.
