H.E. Ms. Phasporn Sangasubana, Ambassador of Thailand to the Czech Republic, attended an ASEAN Day reception at the Museum of Decorative Arts

H.E. Ms. Phasporn Sangasubana, Ambassador of Thailand to the Czech Republic, attended an ASEAN Day reception at the Museum of Decorative Arts on 8 August 2023, jointly organised by the ASEAN Committee in Prague (ACP) to welcome the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s 56th anniversary. The Philippine Ambassador to Prague, as the current Chair of the ACP, presided over the event. The ACP comprises heads of diplomatic missions of ASEAN Member States in the Czech Republic, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

On this occasion, H.E. Ms. Kateřina Sequensová Eliška Žigová, Director-General of Non-European Countries, Economic and Development cooperation section, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, also presented as the guest of honour. The event was attended by diplomatic corps, especially, ASEAN dialogue partners, representatives from the government, private and academic sectors, including Czech media in total of more than 150 people.

 

The event began with the presentation of ACP's video message. The Chair of ACP and the guest of honour then delivered remarks at the event, which was followed by the cutting of a birthday cake, a trivia game about ASEAN to win special gifts from ACP.

 

Furthermore, all attendees had an opportunity to taste the national dishes prepared by all 6 ASEAN Embassies in Prague. There was also a fashion show of the national dresses presented by the representatives of all six ASEAN Member States. Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Prague Office and an official at the Royal Thai Embassy in Prague represented Thailand by showcasing the adaptation of two Thai modern dresses from the traditional Thai cotton cloth and Thai silk, which have been inspired by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother initiative to encourage Thai public to wear.

 

Then ACP has opened the exhibition on “Woven Identities: Clothing Tradition of ASEAN” from 9 – 21 August 2023 at the museum of decorative arts, which show the traditional cloth of all 10 ASEAN Member States.
