Sawasdee kap, (dobrý den)
On behalf of the Government of the Czech Republic and on my own behalf, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the people of the Kingdom of Thailand on the occasion of the Thai National Day.
Today we celebrate the Birth Anniversary and remembrance of His Majesty the Late King Rama IX, the Great of Thailand and the world´s longest serving monarch, well loved by the people of Thailand. It is widely known, that the late King Rama IX had strongly contributed to the improvement of lives in Thailand and to the well-being of its people.
Today´s solemn anniversary is also an opportunity to remind that the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand share a commitment to democracy, rule of law and prosperity. The history of our bilateral ties goes far beyond the date of the establishment of our diplomatic relations. We can refer to the Royal visit of Thai King Rama VII in Czechoslovakia as early as in 1934, or the tradition of Czech companies Škoda Plzeň and Baťa already in Siam.
The recent period of our relations shows that we manage to benefit from our successful tradition. Last year our Prime Minister Mr. Andrej Babiš visited Thailand - it was the first visit of Prime Minister of the Czech Republic or Czechoslovakia in Thailand ever. Following the Prime Minister, also Minister of Defense , President of the Parliament, and Minister for the Environment of the Czech Republic have visited Thailand. Moreover, reciprocally, we were expecting the visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr. Chan-o-cha , which unfortunately hasn´t materialized, and we still hope to welcome him here in the Czech Republic as soon as possible.
I am delighted to note that bilateral ties between the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand have grown increasingly stronger in recent years. We value Thailand’s role as a business hub for the entire South East Asia region, and the growing economic and commercial exchanges between our countries, together with people-to-people ties, that all bolster our bilateral relations. Especially I would like to highlight our cooperation in the area of defense, security and industry. There are also more and more Czech tourists visiting Thailand for holiday every year and more and more Thai visitors discovering Prague and other places in our country… I mean in times before the current pandemic, and I hope this trend will continue also after the pandemic is over, which should be very soon, as huge effort in this sense is being done in the Czech Republic, in Thailand and all over the world. I am also very confident that by that time the direct flight between Bangkok and Prague will be open, as its preparations had advanced a lot before the pandemic.
Finally, I want to express that we look forward to continued cooperation and friendship with the government and people of Thailand in the years ahead.
I wish well-being and prosperity to all the people of Thailand.
Kob kun kap , (děkuji)
