Deputy PM and Foreign Affairs Minister Tanasak Pratimapragorn has taken a team of traditional artists to New York to stage a Thai Khon performance on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

H.E. Mr. Virachai Plasai, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand at the United Nations said a Khon performance was chosen to be featured in the UN's anniversary celebrations, as it is unique and of universal beauty, reflecting the country’s diplomatic neutrality, and willingness to work alongside other nations towards peace and security. The show was greatly admired by the diplomatic corps of member nations.

Apart from the traditional performance, the government showcased an exhibition of the achievements and artistic masterpieces of the Foundation of the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques, of Her Majesty, Queen Sirikit of Thailand.

The activities were part of the government’s campaign seeking the support of UN members in Thailand's bid for the country to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC). Thailand has applied for UNSC membership during 2017-2018. Source: National News Bureau of Thailand
